Minecraft Vs. The Sims

Recently I’ve been playing a lot of Minecraft, and for those of you who don’t know what it is then you should go check out www.minecraft.org , I also recently bought Sims 3 for the Xbox 360 and both games are sort of simulation games, but perhaps in different era’s for example in the Sims you do the day to day things in the modern world. Build a home, get a job, have a career and start a family. Whereby in Minecraft you do the day to day things that you might have done in the medieval times, excluding slaying monsters because, don’t quote me here, but monsters might not be real. I’m not sure yet. But anyway, which one is better?

My very own Minecraft Home! :D

Well there obviously both very similar games yet at the same time really different, I mean how many times have you killed a dragon in Sims? But then again how many times have you been burgled in Minecraft? Excluding multiplayer (Which Sims is missing! Online anyway…) Personally I’m torn between the two. I find myself playing Sims and feeling that I’m actually heading for a purpose and that everything I’m doing is leading up to something, which actually turns out to be my characters usually untimely death in a house fire. Yet in Minecraft I can’t help but think to myself, “yeah I’ve built a nice house, but now what?” I mean obviously there’s the Ender Dragon that you can go slay. But for those of you who have done it you’ll know that it’s not all it’s cracked up to be, and in actual fact takes maybe, five - ten minutes to actually do, then what?

The beauty of Minecraft though is that it seems to be ever expanding with new content seemingly coming out every month or so, and for the price of a couple of cans of relentless and a kebab, it’s not half bad. Whereas with Sims you spend your 40 quid or so and that’s it. You get exactly what is on the disk; excluding custom downloads from the EA servers of user created stuff. (Which most of the time is dire haha.)
With Minecraft being relatively new it might have a long way to go yet to being the perfect game, I mean there are a few things missing that perhaps shouldn’t in a game of that calibre. For example it’s kind of a RPG, without the RPG element, and I know it’s been hinted that in the future there will be a levelling system which in my opinion would make it such a fun game, funner that the fun that you already get from it, and I don’t even know if funner is a word! But it will be when it comes to the levelling. Yet Sims is already well established and is loved by people world wide. I had a friend who’d spent close to $ 500 in expansions and downloads, now I don’t know what that is in England, but you don’t spend that kind of money without being dedicated right? Minecraft does have its masses of user created mods that can add things to the game, but after trying last night, and I’m a computer specialist, I just couldn’t install them and get them to work. AT ALL

Now I’m talking purely on gameplay value here, because of course when it comes to graphics, Minecraft just cannot compete. Understandably the creativity in Minecraft might be slightly better than that of the Sims but the default graphics of Minecraft are terrible, and I probably couldn’t play that game without using a texture pack to make things look slightly less retarded.

Now I thought that writing my thoughts down would let me get a better understanding on which one I like more. But I just cannot choose one at all! So as far which one is better, personally I can’t decide and I’ve probably missed hundreds of points out about each game. Which one do you prefer? If you’ve read and played both, or either, let me know which one is your favourite and why?!

I suppose the only thing I can do is go play more of them until I have an epiphany or something!
